St Margaret's On Sunday 29 June, 2025

Message from our Rector- The Rev’d Dr Thomas Plant.

Have your say:Parish Questionnaire

You will have noticed various changes in the six weeks I have been Rector,
and I would like to know what you think of them. I would
also like your views on how we should move ahead. So, a
plea: please complete the parish questionnaire, ideally
online! The link is https://forms.gle/JUuG5AN55szf2Pru7,
which can be accessed using a mobile ‘phone camera with
the QR code on the right. A paper version is also available
at the back of church.

St Peter's Day

The 29th of September is the feast day of St Peter and,
traditionally, also of St Paul. It falls this year on Sunday. Since
St Peter was the principal Apostle to his fellow Jews, and St Paul
to the gentiles, their joint feast represents the fullness of the Church. St
Peter was bishop first of Antioch, where Christians first gained their name,
and later of Rome. Rome was the principal See of the Western Church,
and owing to the secular status of that city as capital of the Empire, its
bishop later became the go-to for the patriarchs of Africa and the East
whenever there was a dispute among them. The Pope of Rome was
therefore recognised as the senior bishop in the entire Church until the
great schism of 1054. No wonder, then, that Petertide was and remains the
main time for ordinations (including my own, to both diaconate and
priesthood). We pray this Sunday particularly for those who are being
ordained this Petertide, and for the unity of the Church.
I am away this weekend for a family wedding, and so am grateful to Fr
John Hillman SSC for covering Mass and Mr John Lane for covering
Evensong today.

Supporting our Foodbank

St. Margaret’s has a collecting box at the back of Church for donations to the Slough Foodbank.

Thank you for your generous support.

Parish Giving Scheme

Did you know that, for those of us who are in a position to give regularly to the work of the church, the Parish Giving Scheme is the optimum way for us to make our donations.  It might mean cancelling an existing Standing Order, but once that is done, and a new one made out to the Parish Giving Scheme, the job is done.

Donations can be monthly, quarterly, annually, or “one-offs”.  The Parish Giving Scheme is a church-owned, not for profit company which deals only with churches’ giving.  The Scheme is paid for by receiving interest from the money which it holds for a few days, before passing it on to the relevant church account.  The advantage for our parish is that the Scheme deals with all the administration, including Gift Aid claims, which cuts out a lot of work for our Treasurer who only needs to deal with the monthly statements received from the Scheme.  It also avoids the need to take cash to a bank – not in Iver!  Please use the contact details below should you wish to join.

Our Welcome Team- a service opportunity!

We need new members for our Welcome Team at the 10.30 service on Sundays- are you able to help us with this important job- welcoming people to our services? Could you join  the rota to help once a month? Contact Sue Boon.

St, Margaret’s also needs help to run our worship services, and children’s ministry as well as our Community activities (the Jam Ministries).

Serving together in God’s family is something to which he calls all Christians according to their gifts and talents. In serving Christ:

  • Our faith is strengthened through depending on him
  • Our fellowship grows as we get to know and love our brothers and sisters in the Church family
  • Our Father God is given glory through our service-

‘ let your light shine before others, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven’  (Matthew 5:16)

We have several opportunities for you to serve in the family of St. Margaret’s- check out these and see if God wants you to help!
